Существующая вторичная литература приписывает наблюдение этой кометы Махмуду аль-Кати в 1583 г. Но в своей недавней работе Мауро Нобили показал, что аль-Кати не был автором приписываемой ему знаменитой хроники «Тарих аль-фатташ».
